Are You Too Young for Surgery?

We’ve all been there. We wake up in the morning, feeling ready for a new day…until we look in the mirror to see a not so ready stranger. From dark under eyes and micro wrinkles to droopy eyelids, there’s a lot of “negative” things that can happen to the eye area. Sadly, a youthful-looking eye isn’t always a sign of actual youth. There are many factors that can, in fact, cause a young person to appear much older.

Although we love those who choose to age gracefully without the help of surgery, a sagging eye isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. We often talk to clients in their late 20’s and 30’s who have already begun to see the negative effects of aging around their eyes. Most are looking to gain back the power of a useful look, but are also considered by their young age. So, let’s take a look at general blepharoplasty and answer the age-old question: who young is too young for eyelid surgery?

What is Blepharoplasty?

In the most basic sense, blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that removes the excess skin around the upper eyelids. Surgery reduces the bags around the bottom eyelids and can take care of the puffy look that sometimes even the best skincare can’t keep under wraps.

But I Thought Excess Skin Was Only a Concern As I Got Older.

Although it’s true that as you mature, the thin membrane that holds the fats around the eyelids weakens, and as it does our skin losses its elasticity. However, this isn’t always just an issue with mature skin. Depending on your particular genetics, your skincare routine, and vices, you could notice that the elasticity around your skin has begun to fail at a much faster rate. It’s not uncommon for people in their late 20’s to already see some excess skin.

Is Surgery the Answer?

You might think you’re too young to get surgery, and you could be right. The best thing to do is to consult a trusted cosmetic surgeon who has experience performing eyelid surgery on a variety of patients. It’s in a consultation that we’ll be able to explain what type of surgery you may be able to have and show you realistic results you can achieve through blepharoplasty. We’re more than happy to help you decide if it’s the right time for you.
